This article deals with the issue of the legitimization of teaching as a profession as well as teacher training within the university context. While adopting this dual perspective, I will discuss the influence of social representations towards the evolution of the teaching profession. From an analogical perspective I will also consider the difficulties emerging from the integration of professional training (in teaching more extensively) within the university structure. Throughout this article I will try to exemplify a hypothesis of stagnation related to the evolution of these interdependent dimensions.
