Résumé

A prominent feature of Marx's programme for education is the combination of schooling with work for the child. The reasons for his plan are both theoretical and practical. Marx regards labour as essential to human development; he rejects the claim of progressive education that 'play is the work of the child '. On the practical side, Marx uses the factory school as his model, not forseeing its replacement by full-time schooling.
