In 2008, a French online math manipulatives dictionary was created describing 84 manipulatives. The goal of this research study was to determine if the dictionary plays an important role in the teaching of mathematics with manipulatives amongst Francophone K to 6 teachers in Alberta. An online survey was used to analyze the demographics of the participants as well as the usage and non-usage of the dictionary. The results indicate that only 37% of the participants know about and consult the dictionay. Comments about the usefulness of the dictionary and suggestions for possible improvements were noted. However, 63 % of the respondents do not use the dictionary because they are not aware of it. The dictionary does not seem to play a major role in the teaching of mathematics with manipulatives amongst Francophone K to 6 teachers in Alberta. The study makes recommendations to improve its usage as a professional development resource.
