Résumé

Although trends increasingly consider the teacher as a professional, the above definition more clearly suggests his or her real level of knowledge and work. Nevertheless, this perception only partially reveals the teacher's participation in social initiatives, and obscures the part played in ideological or educational activities. Drawing inspiration from scholars' analyses, this paper characterizes the teacher as an intellectual or mediator, at the crossroads of social interaction as an heir, an interpreter, a critic, a producer and a reproducer of education and ideology. As one whose part is to make the young understand the concepts, ideals, and the value of collective regulation. This concept does not interfere with the teacher's professional work, however, it underlines the fact that we cannot understand the specialization of the teacher's knowledge and work without referring to the teacher as an intellectual, and without revealing the vicissitudes of his or her social heritage.
