Mikki, Kendall. Hood Feminism: Notes from the Women That a Movement Forgot

Authors

Abstract

We have reviewed Mikki Kendall’s timely work ‘Hood Feminism: Notes from the Women White Feminists Forgot’, which talks about how mainstream feminism has elided the struggles of women of colour, queer women, lower-class working women, and women with disabilities. Kendall astutely highlights the limited scope of traditional feminist writings, which predominantly focus on the experiences of white women while disregarding the narratives of other marginalised women. The absence of recognition of many perspectives within the movement results in a void characterised by restricted dialogue and overlooked historical and societal concerns, on a worldwide scale.
