Abstract

Repeated offers by the three denominations to reform their educational systems (including economic reforms), while preserving its distinctiveness, were met with the often contradictory, but nonetheless relentless march, that led to the suppression of the constitutional rights and guarantees of these minority groups. [...] while Fagan does make brief mention of such a philosophy, one can hear the responses of other denominations, both Christian and non-Christian, claiming the distinctiveness of their own faith traditions and education system, including religious education and pastoral care, thus leaving the constitutional guarantees of Catholic education open to challenge.
