Abstract

Four views of the future, from the technological optimism of Buckminster Fuller through the danger warnings of Jacques Ellul to the "pop" futurology of Alvin Tofler, are discussed. It is argued that educational planners, who have largely concentrated upon statistical techniques, can learn a great deal from the futurologists in terms of 1he development of a philosophical and historical perspective on planning.
