Submission Preparation Checklist

All submissions must meet the following requirements.

  • The UHJ has a 'house style' that all submissions must follow: - All work must be from a history class at the University of Calgary and was submitted for a grade - No anonymous work will be accepted - At this time, we are only accepting digital submissions - One copy of your submission must be sent electronically in Word, double-spaced in Times New Roman 12pt font with footnotes in Chicago style. Authors submitting a paper are encouraged to review the History Student's Handbook essay writing guide, available on the History Department website - Suggestions of work for submission may be from students or from instructors, but they must have achieved a superior grade in a course, normally an A or A+ - Faculty should first obtain permission from students before offering works for consideration
  • All submissions must conform to the University of Calgary's History Student's Handbook and the Chicago citation style.
  • Students can submit work such as research papers, historiographies, book reviews, document/web analyses, presentations or explications that are exemplary and indicative of excellence that can act as models for other students.
  • The deadline for submissions is on the last day of the Winter Term, usually at the end of April (unless stated otherwise), though submissions are encouraged at any time.
  • All submissions must be sent to the Undergraduate History Journal email: uhj@ucalgary.ca.

Privacy Statement

The names entered in this journal site will be used exclusively for the stated purposes of this journal and will not be made available for any other purpose or to any other party. The author's contact information will not be shared. 

It is important to note that the editing process of the Journal is completely anonymous and double-vetted. Only one senior editor has access to the submissions and the names of authors for organizational purposes, and all personal information is removed when the papers are distributed for editing. There is a minimum of three editing rounds, with each editor getting different papers every round.
