Author Guidelines
GUIDELINES FOR AUTHORS OF MANUSCRIPTS
Authors should prepare manuscripts according to the seventh edition of the Publication Manual of the American Psychological Association (2019). Full-length articles should not exceed 25 pages of double-spaced, typewritten copy excluding title page, abstract, references, tables, and figures. Fieldwork manuscripts are intended to report on innovative practices, techniques, or programs or to critically discuss current issues of particular interest to the practitioner. Emphasis is on application and attention should be given to related literature. Fieldwork manuscripts are not to exceed 18 pages of double-spaced, typewritten copy. Brief reports should not exceed 10 pages of double-spaced, typewritten copy. All manuscripts should have at least one-inch (2.54 cm) margins on all sides. Text should be in 12-point Times New Roman font.
All identifying author information must be removed from the submission file. This includes any author names, affiliations, and/or other identifying information. The author’s name needs to be removed from the document’s ‘Properties’, which in Microsoft Word is found in the ‘File’ menu.
All figures and images are to be attached as supplementary files using high quality image formats suitable for print (BMP, TIFF, PDF, or EPS, not GIF or JPEG; minimum 300 dpi resolution).
Abstract and the Title. Submit one abstract and title in the language of your submission (i.e., either English or French). Abstracts should generally not exceed 150 words in length (some exceptions are made for longer abstracts). All submissions MUST be submitted on line at:

When submitting online, please note that you need to click on ‘Save/Continue’ at the bottom of each page in order to proceed to the next step in the submission process:
Go to the registration page to register as a user of the online system if you do not yet have a username and password.
Click on ‘Submit’ once you are logged into the system to initiate the submission process
In ‘Step 1’ of the submission process, ensure that:
a) You select a section from the ‘Journal Section’ menu.
b) You check off each item in the ‘Submission Checklist’.
In ‘Step 2’ of the submission process, ensure that:
a) You provide your personal information (name, email, etc.).
b) You provide the title of your article or reviewed book.
In ‘Step 3’ of the submission process, you upload a copy of your manuscript in Word (.doc) or RTF (.rtf) format after ensuring that:
a) Include a cover page that includes the title of your manuscript, followed by an abstract of generally up to 150 words (some exceptions are made for longer abstracts) on the second page, followed by the manuscript itself. Do not include any biographical information.
b) All identifying author information has been removed from the manuscript file. This includes any author names, affiliations, and/or other identifying information.
c) The author’s name has been removed from the document’s ‘Properties’, which in Microsoft Word is found in the ‘File’ menu.
d) All figures and images are included in the text using high quality image formats suitable for print (BMP, TIFF, or EPS, not GIF or JPEG; minimum 300 dpi resolution).
Finish your submission by reviewing your submission details in ‘Step 6’.
Review and Editorial Decision. All articles are submitted to blind review. Reviewer’s comments contribute to editorial decision whether or not to publish and provide useful suggestions for manuscript revisions.
Authors are advised not to submit any manuscript which is concurrently under consideration by another journal; not to submit a manuscript which has been published in whole or in substantial part in another journal.

GUIDELINES FOR AUTHORS OF BOOK REVIEWS
Reviews of books should not exceed 1,000 words in length. At the top of the review, indicate the complete citation (APA format, 7th ed.) for the book, ISBN number, number of pages, and the reviewer’s name, institutional or work affiliation, and complete mailing address. Use the title of the book as the title of the review.

Book Review. The ideal review will have three sections that include the following information. In part I, the reviewer should describe the purpose, general content, and organization of book, and a comment about the author(s)’ background, when that information is available.
Part II should give readers a more detailed description of the book content, chapter-by-chapter or section-by-section. This section should contain some editorial comments from the reviewer about how well this content and organization achieves the author(s) purpose. Also, comment should be made on the author(s) writing style.
Part III should provide information on the personal impact of the book on the reviewer, as well as critical considerations of the relevance and usefulness of the content for readers of the Canadian Journal of Counselling and Psychotherapy, who are primarily counsellors, counselling psychologists, and counsellor educators.
Do not include reference citations to other books or resources in the review.

Acceptance of a review for publication will be dependent on: (a) its suitability for and relevance to the counselling profession; (b) how recent the publication is, notwithstanding a compelling rationale for reviewing a book published more than 2 years ago; and (c) its overall quality based on the criteria above.
