Ryan Johnson, University of Strathclyde

Ryan Johnson ryan.johnson@strath.ac.uk is lecturer in history at the University of Strathclyde and the Centre for the Social History of Health and Healthcare (CSHHH), Glasgow, where he teaches medical history and British imperial history. Ryan completed his D.Phil at the Wellcome Unit for the History of Medicine, University of Oxford, in 2009 titled "Networks of Imperial Tropical Medicine: British Ideas of Health and Hygiene in the Tropical Empire, 1895-1914." His current research interests include a history of public health in British West Africa. He has published on the formation and reform of the West African Medical Staff, the training of non-medical missionaries in modern tropical medicine, and the use of clothing and Tabloid brand medicine chests in tropical climates.
