Problem Solving Phases diagram with Phase 1: Get Organized highlighted.

Welcome to Module 1-1!

This is the first module of the Launch phase. During this phase you will work individually and with your classmates to conduct a Knowledge Inventory. This means documenting knowledge that you may already have that might help you think about your Challenge Project, and -- even more important -- creating a list of things you need to learn about in order to propose a solution. In the problem-based learning approach, these are called your "Need to Knows", and we'll use that term frequently in the course.

This week you will work on generating your own list of Need to Knows. Next week, you will meet your project team and combine your lists into one.

Learning Objective:

By completing the tasks for this week, you should be able to:

Tasks for this week

  1. Review the information that introduces Your Challenge Project.
  2. Individually, make a list of things you need to know about the challenge and anything you already know that might help.
  3. Post your list in the discussion and review your classmate's ideas.
  4. Your instructor will comment on the lists as a whole and may invite you to a meeting to compare results.
